Features:

A-5 Gearbox Upgrade converts 3.35 1st Ratio T-5 to a Close Ratio 2.95 1st.  The Gears used in the Upgrade feature Reduced Helix Angles on Premium 9310 Alloy Steel Gears that remain Synchronized to give the end user the same exact shift effort/feel from a Brand New T-5!  The manufacturing process of our A-5 Gear Kit and Internals are made here in the U.S.  This gearbox upgrade has been considered by many the Last Upgrade you can perform to the World Class T-5 before considering a 6 Speed or Automatic Upgrade.  The T-5's lightweight design and small Girth make it the perfect original Gearbox to perform an A-5 Upgrade to.  In addition the Gearbox Upgrade only requires end user to Upgrade to a 26 Spline Clutch.  But, the Bellhousing, Clutch Linkage (Cable), Clutch Fork, Shifter, Cross-Member/Transmission Mount, and Driveshaft Length & Slip Yoke all remain the same as original gearbox required.

Highlights of Upgraded A-5 and "Why" it can support the Power Listed:

-Reducing the Helix Angles of Gear Teeth on 1st thru 4th gears so that "less side thrust" is exerted on rear main case. Reducing the helix angles on the A-5 gear Kit allow us to make the Gears thicker/larger/wider than any other Synchronized World Class T-5 Gear Kit on the Market.
-Premium Alloy Steel used is 9310 Alloy.  It is the same type of steel used by the U.S. Military as well as Many Performance Manual Transmission Manufacturers.
-The Upgraded Cluster Support/Reinforcement Plate used on our Builds acts as a "Girdle" for Rear Main Case.  It will not distort or bend under the amount of Loads that this Gearbox Upgrade suports
-Gearbox upgrade allows for the exact same Bearings, Synchronizer Rings, Seals, and Linkage Components providing for the Same Type of Shift Effort and Feel of a Brand New T-5 Gearbox.
-Due to the type of Alloy of Steel used when Manufacturing the Gear Kit, this Gearbox requires a special "Cocktail" when it comes to Gearbox Oil.  Astro Performance supplies 1 Qt. of additive with Gearbox Upgrade.  End user must install the Astro Performance supplied Additive before topping off with Customer Supplied Dexron V (Synthetic ATF).  Gearbox will take approximately 2.75 Qts Total...including the 1 Qt. of Additive we supply.


How to Handle Shipping of Core to Our Warehouse:

Customer must send in one of the following World Class T-5 Cores for the Upgrade to be considered:

-1985-95 Ford Mustang 5.0L
-1987-93 Ford Mustang 2.3L
-1994-98 Ford Mustang 3.8L
-1999-04 Ford Mustang 3.8L

Core must be drained of all Fluid.  Core must also have all of the supporting bolt on's removed. This includes removal of shifter, transmission mount, bellhousing, clutch fork, and any pigtail harness or speedometer sending unit.  It is an excellent idea to "bag" the transmission so that the gearbox doesn't leak any fluid on box if set on end when in transit. Any Gearbox that is exchanged in that has a NON-USABLE CASE, TAILSHAFT HOUSING, TOP-COVER, OR 5TH GEAR SET WILL INCUR AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OVER THE PRICE LISTED HERE. PRICING OF THIS ITEM IS FIGURED IN WITH REUSING THE CASE, TAILSHAFT HOUSING, TOP-COVER AND 5TH GEAR SET.

Customers Core can be sent in via UPS Ground, Fedex Ground, or Truck Freight.  Customer is responsible for "Roundtrip Freight" Charges.  If the end user would like us to schedule a Truck Freight Pickup, please send an email to sales@astroperformance.com with your information (billing and shipping address) and when the core will be prepped and strapped to a pallet for pickup.  Customer MUST supply a Business/Commercial Address for us to consider picking up gearbox.  The same holds true if end user wants us to return Upgraded Gearbox via Truck Freight.  Residential Address only qualifies for UPS or Fedex Lightweight Shipments, under 150 lbs. If end user requests us to quote truck return freight, please supply the dimensions on the pallet as well so we can quote it accurately.  If end user agrees to our shipping quote of getting core to our warehouse, we will email a copy of a bill of lading to have Gearbox picked up that the end user will have to print off 3 copies of.  One copy goes on the pallet and acts as a shipping label. The other two are for the driver of truck picking up core and the other is for you to keep to prove shipment of gearbox.

Time Frame Required for A-5 Upgrade once Core is Returned to our Warehouse:

This is very important to consider before sending in your T-5 World Class Core for the Upgrade.  A-5 Gear Kits and Components are usually only available from Manufacturer to us for Transmission Builds and Upgrades from February thru July every year.  Before or Thereafter we only sell replacement components for A-5 Gearboxes already out in the field for Repair/Refresh.  So, with this being said it is Never a good idea to Assume Astro Performance has the A-5 Gear Kit and Upgrades on the shelf throughout the Year.  The A-5 Upgrade and Sales are usually most prominent during both the U.S. and Australia's Income Tax Return Season.  Of course this window of 6 months proves to be very busy for the A-5 Upgrade.  This means it could take up to 3 weeks to get a build completed once sent in.  I would personally recommend all end users requesting this form of upgrade to send in an email prior to making an A-5 Gearbox Upgrade Decision to consider time frame.  Please send all inquiries to sales@astroperformance.com

One question we get from many A-5 candidates is when we are out of stock on the A-5 components to be able to provide a Build is "how they can get on a list to be considered for an A-5 Upgrade"? The answer is simply.  Simply send us and email with your information (billing and shipping address if different), application, rear gear ratio, rear tire size, and what Torque A-5 Upgrade your wanting us to build.  Also include if the application requires a special "Road Race" Overdrive instead of the traditional fuel efficient overdrive used in most of our builds. We will then make up an estimate for the Upgrade and email it to you.  Once you approve the Estimate we will then collect a Deposit for those end users that are serious.  Deposits are taken via Paypal thru a "Request for Payment" option.  The Deposit is usually 10% of the Entire Gearbox build. Then you are entered onto a List of Gearbox Orders we have.  Depending on when your order/deposit is submitted determines where you fall on the List of builds.  The other way to secure an A-5 Upgrade is to send in your Core.  Sending your Core is as good as a deposit to us as it shows the End User is interested. The only thing I would like to ask of you is to not send the core 3 months before an A-5 can be built.  We don't want the extra unit sitting around and possibly getting mis-placed during the down-time. Again, a simple email will allow us to let you know a good time to get the gearbox in.  Usually I wouldn't want core sent in until we are 2-4 weeks out from A-5 Internals arriving at our warehouse.

Return Freight of Gearbox to End User:

Once Gearbox is Upgraded and ready for Return the remaining payment or whole payment, if deposit isn't made up front, will be due.  This includes any freight charges due by Astro Performance to the end user.  We ship all Gearboxes out "Dry" as NO trucking lines allow for Oil to be installed during transit.  We do paint the gearboxes as a "Courtesy", unless the end user states to not do so.  It is important to note that gearbox transports the safest way via Truck Freight, and not thru UPS or Fedex Ground options.

THERE IS NO PRICE LISTED FOR RETURN FREIGHT CHARGES ON WEBSITE.   FREIGHT CHARGES WILL BE DETERMINED MANUALLY HERE WHEN WE MAKE UP A BUILD SHEET FOR THE INCOMING CORE THE END USER WILL SEND TO US. WE WILL EMAIL AN ESTIMATE TO END USER WITH FREIGHT CHARGE(S) ADDED ALONG WITH A PAYPAL "REQUEST FOR PAYMENT" FOR ANYONE THAT MAKES A PURCHASE FROM OUR WEBSITE FOR THIS UPGRADE BEFORE SENDING CORE IN.

 

Warranty on Gearbox Upgrade:

All A-5 Gearboxes are Guaranteed for a period of 12 Months to not "Grind" when up or down-shifting, not "Pop-Out" of Gear, and to Not cause Vibrations (not including installation error with bellhousing or driveline alignment).  R&R (Removal or Reinstallation) is not covered.  We Do Not install the Gearbox in Car nor do we Hand-Deliver Gearbox to end user.  When gearbox leaves our warehouse it has been tested for functionality of shifting and proven to not vibrate. Shipping the gearbox back thru UPS or Fedex has proven in the past to cause internal issues, especially when gearboxes are handled carelessly.  Truck Freight has proven to be most successful for not causing internal damage.  But, its the End Users decision of how to ship gearbox back!

Any A-5 that is NOT FILLED WITH FLUID BEFORE OPERATION, WILL FAIL. AND, THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. Because of so many unknowns, after gearbox leaves our warehouse as a Proven and Working Manual Gearbox, it is the end users responsibility for returning Gearbox to our warehouse for inspection.  We will provide any truck freight shipping discounts available at the time to the end user.  But, the customer IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURN FREIGHT CHARGES AND TO PALLETIZE GEARBOX TO RETURN.

Benefits of Ordering A-5 Gearbox online vs over the Telephone:

Over the years we have found that the way we are able to stay more productive is by different means of electronic communication vs verbal communication via telephone.  With this being said, we have listed longer descriptions than most do to try and share as much information on the Gearbox being considered for Upgrade.  Most of this stuff can't be processed and remembered by the End User considering the upgrade, especially if the Upgrade is down the Road a bit.  So, our Online Pricing is Cheaper than what the Pricing of the Gearboxes are over the Telephone.  We will still honor telephone orders Monday thru Friday 10:30am-2:30pm CST.  But, you will see and/or hear pricing quoted verbally different from what is listed here on our website.
